New South Wales, Australia – The way that commuters plan, book and pay for their transportation is fast-changing. Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) implemented a creative digital payment platform called Opal Connect. With Opal Connect, riders can book and pay for their journey on various transport apps with a single account, after linking their Opal card and or credit/debit card.

The Hillsbus MetroConnect App, which was developed by SWAT in partnership with ComfortDelgro Group, was one of the first to support Opal Connect. Hillsbus MetroConnect is an on-demand bus service connecting the surrounding areas to Bella Vista, Norwest and Hills Showground stations. Riders who register for Opal Connect and use it to pay for their on-demand services will receive up to $2 travel credit each time they transfer to other Opal services like the bus, train, or metro. Commuters are allowed to use their transport credit towards all other on demand services that use and accept Opal payments.

Opal Connect has the potential to become a single window for all transport transactions including on-demand public transportation, ride-sharing, taxis, and parking. With this integration, Hillsbus MetroConnect and SWAT hope to make multimodal journeys more seamless and convenient.
